The use of high-quality fabrics:
High-quality shirt fabrics typically consist almost exclusively of natural fibers, such as cotton, wool, silk, or linen. The length of the fiber also plays a role: the longer the fiber, the more stable and tear-resistant the yarn and ultimately the fabric. There are various weaving techniques that influence the weight of the fabric (weight per unit area g/m2, also called grammage). Fabrics with higher grammage are heavier, more stable, denser, and warmer.
All shirts from RIESENHEMD Hamburg are made from 100% European cotton. We offer shirts with various weaving techniques, such as Poplin (shirts Berlin and Oslo), Oxford (shirts Wien and Madrid), Fil-a-fil (shirts London, Paris), and Herringbone Twill (Zuerich). For each of our shirts, the material, weave type, and fabric grammage are precisely described.
An appealing design:
Did you know that a shirt has approximately 20 different parts, such as the collar, front and back panels, sleeves, and cuffs? How these parts harmonize together determines the design, which shows significant differences from manufacturer to manufacturer.
All shirts from RIESENHEMD Hamburg have a collar that works well with or without a tie. Some of our collars feature removable collar stays that keep the collar in shape. All sleeves have a button above the cuff that prevents the unsightly gaping of the shirt over the arm. The cuffs themselves have two parallel buttons that allow you to vary the cuff width (for example, to wear the shirt with or without a watch). Additionally, all our shirts can be fastened with cufflinks in addition to the sewn-on buttons. Our shirts deliberately omit breast pockets or collar buttons.
Our shirts Zuerich, Paris, and London feature an extra-long tail at the back, so the shirt stays tucked in well even after a long day at the office. Our shirt Paris appears very elegant with a French cuff and French placket, making it excellently suited for special occasions. The shirts Berlin and Oslo have an applied button placket and a second, color-coordinated fabric on the inside of the collar and cuffs that harmonizes beautifully with the main fabric of the shirt.
A good fit:
A high-quality shirt should fit well on the body - not too wide, not too tight, not too long or too short. The shirt fits ideally on the body when it lies against the chest without the fabric being too taut. The length of the shirt is sufficient when it doesn't slip out of the pants at the back or sides.
The sleeve length is correct when the cuffs sit between the end of the thumb and the wrist when the arm hangs straight down. When wearing a jacket, the shirt cuff should extend at least one centimeter beyond it.
The collar size is correct when, with the buttons fastened, two fingers can still fit comfortably between the shirt collar and neck. Shirts made from 100% cotton should be bought slightly larger, as the shirt reaches its final size only after the 4th or 5th wash.
RIESENHEMD Hamburg produces shirts for tall men from 1.90 meters and above. We offer two fits: Slim Fit Long and Modern Fit Long. Our Slim Fit shirts are suitable for tall, very slim men, with more pronounced tapering and an overall slimmer cut. Our Modern Fit shirts are also tapered but slightly wider than the Slim Fit models - for the "normal-slim" man. All shirts from RIESENHEMD Hamburg have a 72 cm sleeve length. High-quality craftsmanship:
The more stitches a seam has, the more durable the shirt. Eight stitches per centimeter is the standard for a good shirt. In high-quality shirts, the armhole is sewn twice. The shoulder yoke (the part covering the shoulders) is often sewn separately in high-quality shirts and with double fabric.
All shirts from RIESENHEMD Hamburg feature these quality characteristics: the shirts have a stitch density of eight stitches per centimeter, so your shirt lasts longer. The armhole of our shirts is sewn twice, and the yoke is made of double fabric.
Sustainability:
Producing sustainably is not simple. One must consider nature and its burden from the use of pesticides and carbon dioxide, but also the resources consumed, such as water and electricity. And the social standards of the people involved in making the shirt.
