Quality Fabrics
Our Premium Fabrics for Tall Men
A premium fabric is the foundation of every great shirt. At RIESENHEMD Hamburg, we use exclusively 100% European cotton – woven in Spain, certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, and cut specifically for tall men with a lean to average build.
Why Only Natural Fibers?
Synthetic fabrics such as polyester have no place in a quality dress shirt. They trap heat, feel uncomfortable against the skin and give shirts an artificial, plasticky sheen. Pure cotton, by contrast, breathes naturally, sits comfortably against the skin and develops a quiet, understated elegance over time.
Our Quality Promise:
100% European cotton - no synthetic blends
Woven in Spain – short supply chains, the highest production standards
OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified – tested for harmful substances and kind to the skin
Cut for tall men – perfect proportions from 190 cm (6'3") upwards
The Art of Weaving
Cotton fibres are spun into yarns, yarns into threads, and threads are woven into our premium fabrics. The weave structure determines the texture, feel and character of the finished shirt.
The three fundamental weave types:
- Plain weave – weft and warp threads cross alternately → firm, stable and durable
- Twill weave – a diagonal interlacing structure → softer, warmer and naturally fluid
- Satin weave – a smooth, lustrous surface → elegant, supple and beautifully draping

Fabric Weight & Finishing
Understanding Fabric Weight
Fabric weight (g/m²) indicates the weight per square meter and determines the fabric's characteristics:
110-120 g/m² - Light and airy, ideal for summer
120-130 g/m² - Wearable year-round, versatile
130-155 g/m² - Heavier and warmer, perfect for cooler days
Fabric Finishing for Lasting Quality
Sanforisation (pre-shrinking) Prevents subsequent shrinkage – your shirts retain their perfect fit even after many washes.
Easy-care treatment Simplifies care without chemical additives – applied to our Fil-à-fil shirts, the London and Paris.
Two-ply quality Exceptional durability through double-twisted yarns – used in our Brussels shirt.
