Washing Shirts
1. Basic washing rules
Always check the care label first – each fabric has its own requirements. Don't overload the machine; shirts need room to wash properly. For cotton, the ideal temperature is between 30 and 40°C – higher temperatures clean more thoroughly but put more stress on the fabric. A spin speed of 600–800 rpm is optimal for protecting the weave.
2. Before you wash
Turn shirts inside out to protect the outer surface. Remove collar stays to avoid damage. Treat heavy soiling – particularly on collars and cuffs – by hand or with a stain remover spray before washing. Buttons open or closed? Either is fine.
3. What to avoid
Avoid fabric softener – it can damage the fibre structure over time. Don't leave shirts sitting in the drum after the cycle ends, as this increases creasing. And avoid excessively high temperatures, which put unnecessary stress on the fabric.
Proper Drying
The golden rule:
Shirts should never go in the dryer! The heat and movement can damage the fabric and alter the fit.
How to dry shirts properly:
Remove the shirts from the machine immediately after the wash cycle. The longer they sit, the more they wrinkle. Shake them out vigorously to reduce creasing, and ideally hang them directly on hangers.
The right location:
Dry in sunlight – it acts as a natural bleaching agent.
Dry either indoors or turned inside out outdoors to protect the colors.
Ensure good ventilation so the shirts dry quickly and stay fresh.
