Fit and size overview

We have designed our shirts, which are released in small editions, ourselves and put a lot of thought into the fit and the large overview – because we focus exclusively on tall men with our range. All our shirts have extra long sleeves of 72 cm and are cut longer overall, so with an extra long torso.

RIESENHEMD Hemden are available in two fits, “Modern Fit Long” and “Slim Fit Long”.

But what is Modern Fit Long and how does this fit differ from Slim Fit Long?

Modern Fit Long:

Modern Fit Long is designed for long men with a “normal slim” figure. The “Modern Fit Long” shirt has two smaller pleats at the back, which provides more freedom of movement in the shoulders. The shirt is also cut slightly wider at the stomach, for “winter flab”. Ideal for normal-slim men who prefer shirts that are not quite so tight-fitting. If you have very strong shoulders (in the sense of a bodybuilder’s body) and at the same time a slim waist, the cut is unfortunately not ideal for you – unfortunately, we cannot offer a separate cut for you at the moment.

Slim Fit Long:

Slim Fit Long is designed for long men with a very slim figure. The “Slim Fit Long” shirt has two smaller darts at the back, which ensures that the shirt fits closer to the body. This cut is therefore ideal for very slim, tall men who like to wear their shirts fitted and close to the body.

How do I find my right fit?

The right fit is the A-Z of a convincing style. There are two methods to find your right fit: either you take your previous favourite shirt as a guide or you measure your upper body.

If you want to use an existing shirt as a guide, you can usually find at least the collar size sewn into the collar. You can measure the rest of the measurements on the shirt (see also below), or you can search for the measurements on the manufacturer’s website (these then refer to the respective fabric length).

Alternatively, you can also measure your upper body yourself – it is best to have someone help you with this, as it is easier to measure in pairs. Please measure as follows:

Collar size: Measure once around the neck, and put a finger under the tape measure – then you have your collar size.

We work with collar sizes in centimetre increments; this allows you to choose whether you prefer it a little tighter or wider at the collar (other manufacturers sometimes work with only 2 centimetre increments). If you wear the shirt open most of the time, you can try a size smaller on the collar, for example, if you want the shirt to be a little tighter on your body.

Chest circumference: Measure under the axles at the widest part of the chest, usually this is at the level of the nipple. Make sure the tape measure is straight across your back. Again, place a finger under the tape measure.

Waist measurement: Measure approximately at the level of the belly button. Even if it is tempting: do not pull in your belly when measuring. Again, place a finger under the tape measure and do not pull it too tight (but it should not sag either).

Overall length: Measure from the top of your shoulders (just below the neck) to about your crotch. Business shirts should be slightly longer, casual shirts slightly shorter (so that you can wear them outside your trousers without them looking too long).

Arm length: Ideally, have someone help you measure here. Let the arm fall loosely. Place the measuring tape at the shoulder, at the outer edge of the shoulder bone. From there, measure backwards over the elbow to the carpus. You should add 2 cm to the reading.

Feel free to add a few centimetres to the bust and waist so that you have enough room – a shirt should not be too tight. And note – our shirts are made of 100% cotton – which can shrink a little when washed.

If, despite these tips, you are still unsure which fit suits you best, then try out two different sizes when you first buy from us – “the proof of the pudding is in the eating” – because you have a 30-day right of exchange with us.
